Oil Spill News
Sad news-- Our area of beach has received two waves of small tar balls over the past two days. The tar balls are small and quickly cleaned up but the fact that they are here is very disheartening to everyone who lives on and visits our beaches. Please be aware that none of our beaches are closed and everyone has been anticipating that we would at least see some tar balls over the next few weeks--so these are not unexpected. Crews are quickly cleaning up the areas of the beach where the balls are washing up and out of 27 miles of beach, the oil spill has only affected less than a mile of our coastline.
On Friday the first appearance of tar balls washed up just half a mile from one of our weddings but you would have never known it. The beach was just as gorgeous as ever and the water was beautifully clear and calm. There was even a pod of dolphins just offshore and everyone stopped what they were doing to watch as the dolphins rolled and jumped out of the water. Here is the happy couple-Sara and Jacob-on their June 18th, 2010 wedding day.
Here are two links for checking on the oil spill and area information. Panama City Beach Oil Spill and Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce Oil Spill Updates We hope this info helps and remember--Our Beaches Are OPEN!
