It's beautiful beach weather at last in Panama City Beach Florida! Some of our packages have changed a bit and we are ready for a full season of weddings. Despite the oil spill of last summer, we have been very fortunate that our beaches never did receive significant amounts of oil....clean, clear water and sugar white sands are what we are famous for and it's still true! Make your plans now to book your beach wedding--we still have summer dates open and the fall and winter months are always fantastic times for a gorgeous wedding! Oil Spill News

Sad news-- Our area of beach has received two waves of small tar balls over the past two days. The tar balls are small and quickly cleaned up but the fact that they are here is very disheartening to everyone who lives on and visits our beaches. Please be aware that none of our beaches are closed and everyone has been anticipating that we would at least see some tar balls over the next few weeks--so these are not unexpected. Crews are quickly cleaning up the areas of the beach where the balls are washing up and out of 27 miles of beach, the oil spill has only affected less than a mile of our coastline.

On Friday the first appearance of tar balls washed up just half a mile from one of our weddings but you would have never known it. The beach was just as gorgeous as ever and the water was beautifully clear and calm. There was even a pod of dolphins just offshore and everyone stopped what they were doing to watch as the dolphins rolled and jumped out of the water. Oil Spill Update

Oh goodness! Have we been busy explaining the oil situation to our bridal couples and future bridal couples! I hope to be able to post frequent updates to the blog so that all of my couples will be able to click on here and see exactly what is happening on our part of the beach.

As of today, we have had no oil/tarballs/sheen on our beaches. However, the forecast for that is an everchanging thing! This past weekend, we did have a piece of the actual oil rig wash up on a section of Laguna Beach (which is just one of the little neighborhood names for a stretch of beach here in Panama City Beach). It was an aluminium container about the size of a chest freezer that had unknown liquid inside it although no liquid was leaking at all from the item. It was quickly removed, the area thoroughly inspected and the small area that was closed for this was reopened later that day since there was no oil or tar present. So far, that has been the extent of what we have seen in Bay County and on Panama City Beach. South Walton Beach had a similar item wash up on their shores near Miramar Beach on Sunday/Monday and it was quickly removed as well. The same conditions were present with this second container...there was no oil, no leakage of the liquid inside the container and it was removed and the beach reopened.

To help with the posting of information, I will be placing links to this blog that will take you to local news of the oil spill. From what the experts are saying, it is only a matter of time before it actually makes it to our shores but the hope is that it will be tar balls that are easily cleaned up. No one is anticipating waves of thick black oil like they have in Louisianna. Please be aware that our local officials are taking this VERY seriously and have aggressive plans of action in place to deal with any oil that may wash up here. There may be times over the next few months that require portions of the beach to be shut down and cleanup to take place. If your wedding is scheduled to take place on a beach that has been closed we will have to move to an alternative location. We have 27 miles of beach in our county and we have high confidence that we will be able to still have your wedding on the beach. BUT, this is a changing situation. What is clean and clear one day may be closed the next and visa-versa. We will work very hard to make sure your wedding is still a dream beach wedding--it just may not be in the originally set location.

This is very distressing for all of us who live and work here on the coast....our beaches are truly the World's Most Beautiful Beaches and while we are used to dealing with hurricanes and the temporary halt those storms bring to our lives here, this oil spill is a catastrophe none of us have ever had to deal with before. We are all doing what we can to preserve both our beaches and the way of life we have here. Please be patient if you are contacting our office to get information about your wedding--we are working with several bridal couples and still doing weddings right now so needless to say, it is very hectic! If you still have questions after viewing the enclosed links, emails are probably the best way of getting your question to us.

We appreciate ALL of our couples and the faith you have placed in us to handle one of the most important events in your lives! Please-if you can, say a little prayer for our coast to survive and overcome this disaster!

Just as a side note--this is a wedding from Saturday when the first container washed up onshore about 3 miles from our wedding location. The beach and the water was beautiful and people were enjoying themselves as usual. Our couple, Amanda and Michael from Illinois, decided to go ahead with the wedding plans and were so glad they did!

The new international airport for our region will be opening in May 2010 and Southwest Airlines just announced they will be flying into and out of the Bay County airport! For bridal couples traveling to our area for a Panama City Beach wedding this means much lower airfare rates and the convenience of having a large airport within 15 minutes of our beaches! We're all so excited for anyone who plans to vacation in our little spot of paradise!

Summer is almost over and we've had such a busy season I was not able to post to the blog as I had hoped to do! Many couples decided that the Emerald Coast was the perfect place for them to exchange their vows this summer and in particular, Panama City Beach was the beach location for their special event!

One special thing we have done this year was to add a photography website to the Emerald Coast Beach Weddings website. This new site, April's Beach Photography will offer our services as a beach photographer for family beach photos, children photos and engagement photos---all in a beach or garden setting. A February Wedding

A beautiful February Wedding in Panama City Beach, Florida was just the thing for Kristin and Mitchel's wedding on February 27th. The beach was empty and the sunset was so beautiful. It was a little bit on the cold side but Kristin and Mitchel were so much in love I'm sure they barely noticed the temperature! Just one day after the wedding and the temps were back up in the 70's so it was a little unexpected that we had the little cold snap come through when it did! Spring Break Beach Wedding Tips

Ah! Spring again! And around here, it's Florida Spring Break Time! What that means for us here in Panama City Beach is many kids here having a good time. But while you might think that having your wedding in Panama City Beach Florida during Spring Break might not be a good idea, it's really not at all like it used to be during the 80's and 90's when Panama City Beach was THE Spring Break Destination for every college kid in America. Panama City Beach has grown up and is becoming more upscale and family oriented with every passing year. Here are a few suggestions to things much easier if you are planning a Panama City Beach wedding --as a life-long local I consider myself quite savvy about our Spring Break season!

1. Rent a beach house. You won't have to listen to kids running up and down the hallways all night or wishing the elevator was just a little bit less crowded. Plus--you basically have your own little spot of beach right behind the house. Perfect!

2. Have to rent a condo? Try to go for the ones that have an age limit to rent there. Many of the new and luxury condos will have an age limit of 25 or older. The nicer condos will also be more likely to get rid of those who are disruptive and unruly.

3. Try to stay at the west end of Panama City Beach. It's away from the superclubs and usually far enough away from the main portion of the strip where people like to cruise up and down. The furthest west the better if you want more peace and quiet. Don't want to be in the middle of action? Then don't stay on Thomas Drive or the first 5 miles of Front Beach Road from Long Beach Resort going west. Once you get past the intersection of Front Beach Road and Middle Beach Road you should be Ok--you'll still have traffic but it won't be as bad.

4. Dining can be a little tricky. The early the better since most of the spring breakers will be on the beach until the last possible minute or in their rooms gearing up for the evening ahead. Even a Panama City Beach wedding reception can be accomplished with the right planning!

5. Driving can be a nightmare on Front Beach Road. Whenever possible use Middle Beach Road and Back Beach Road to get around. You can pretty much zip from one part of the beach to the other by avoiding Front Beach Road as much as you can. That's where Panama City Beach has an advantage over Destin where traffic gets so bogged down you could just scream. No easy ways of avoiding the main road in Destin because it is the main road and there aren't any good backways of getting around there unless you are a local and know about the backroads.

6. Crowded beaches--well, sometimes you just want a little space! If you have to stay at a condo or hotel you will see that their beaches will usually be a bit crowded. There are a few places you can go in Panama City Beach to enjoy the beach and relax in peace and quiet. Some of these places do not allow alcohol so most spring-breakers will avoid them. The picture for this post was taken at the height of Spring Break at one of those places--notice how empty the beach is?

7. What to do other than go to the beach? LOTS! Shopping being the biggest thing! Spring Breakers are usually more interested in being on the beach or at the clubs rather than inside a store. Putt-putt golf and other attractions are best done earlier during the day (when spring breakers are on the beach) or later in the evening (when spring breakers are cruising the strip or at the clubs). Same for going to the movies :-)

We're so glad you've visited our blog! One big question we get asked alot is "Where can I have my beach wedding?" The answer to that is almost anywhere along the beautiful Emerald Coast-including the Beaches of South Walton and Panama City Beaches. We've been asked numerous times if we can help bridal couples with their weddings in places such as Seaside, Rosemary Beach and Carillon Beach. Unfortunately, we cannot, as these planned development communities have their own wedding coordination event team and do require bridal couples to use their coordination services offered by the town. What this means for you is you cannot choose your own coordinator and beach wedding service.

The problem that has popped up this past year is that many of the local beach wedding services will assure you that they can handle your wedding in these specific locations when in reality they are not authorized to do so. Why do they say they can help when they are not authorized? Because they will take the chance and hope to get your wedding done and over with before anyone is the wiser. Don't take the chance of having your beach wedding interrupted by town security for holding an unauthorized and impermissible ceremony-coordinated by an unscruplous beach wedding service. If a beach wedding company says they can handle your wedding in Seaside, Rosemary Beach, Carillion Beach, etc., they are not telling you the complete truth. Call the event coordination office of the town you are interested in and get more information. Believe me, we turn away bridal couples all the time who wish to be married in these beautiful communties--and if beach wedding companies were allowed to conduct business in these areas, we would be handling weddings for couples all the time instead of sending them to the community event team!
